Environment, Mobility and Education

Among the department’s primary responsibilities are the handling of environmental threats by researching, reducing and removing site contamination which constitute risks to drinking water and public health.
The department also focuses on mobility and sustainability in planning and development of the region’s public transport system consisting of buses, trains and flexible carpooling solutions which create vital links and cohesion between larger cities and rural areas.
Developing education and skills among both youth and adults is also among the department’s primary responsibilities. The main areas of focus are upper secondary education, vocational education and transitions to higher education in efforts to meet future competence demands.
The Regional Council act as the democratically elected political foundation for the department’s strategies and initiatives as well as its collaboration with the municipalities and other partners at local, regional, national and international levels.
