The Unit of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Aalborg University Hospital is looking for: 1-2 Consultants in Pediatric Oncology

Presentation of the Unit of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.
The Unit of pediatric oncology is a section of the pediatric department at Aalborg University Hospital, where certain types of pediatric cancer are diagnosed and treated according to the Danish Health Authority’s Hospital Planning. The department has existed for several years and is currently employing two pediatric oncologists, 12 oncology nurses and one treatment coordinator.

The Pediatric department has an 18-bed ward and six separate oncology beds. The department is comprised of a strong interdisciplinary team, including psychologist, educators, childcare- and social workers, physiotherapist and an extremely well-functioning palliative care team. The latter has through several years collaborated directly with pediatric oncology sections at other university hospitals involving children living in the northern part of Denmark.

The Oncology unit has a structured and well-functioning interdisciplinary collaboration with highly experienced nursing staff and a well-functioning late effects outpatient clinic for oncology patients.

We are an exciting, versatile and busy department, with a friendly atmosphere and social unity, both in the medical group and between the various professional groups.

The pediatric Department has an active research environment, which initiate and participate in a long string of national and international research consortia and projects. Furthermore, a Pediatric Central Trial Unit (CTU) is established within the Pediatric Research Group. CTU contributes with planning and execution of drug studies for children and Adolescents.

In accordance to the Danish Health Authority’s Hospital Planning, the Pediatric Department handles all specialized regional functions, and in a collaboration agreement with Aarhus University Hospital highly specialized services in neonatology, endocrinology, hematology, oncology, nephrology, urology, neuropediatric, cardiology, rheumatology.

The care of intensive pediatric patients is a collaboration with pediatric anesthesiologists.

The Department takes roughly 4000 inpatient children and sees approximately 20,000 outpatient children a year.

The department has a two-shift on-call structure, with an on-call resident physician, on-call specialist physician and neonatal specialist.

The colleagues of the new Consultant are: one chief of pediatrics, 18 consultants, seven senior registrars, eighth pediatric specialist trainees, eight training positions for general practice and two introductory positions.

The department participates in the education of medical students, nurse students along with pediatric specialist trainees and trainees for general practice.

With a baseline in family centered care and treatment, we highly prioritize a close partnership with the patient’s family.
