PhD fellow or research assistant in epidemiology and real-world data science at the Department of Haematology, Aalborg University Hospital

We are searching for a talented and motivated candidate for a project focusing on the use of observational registry data to guide clinical decisions in haematological diseases and cancers in general. Depending on the applicants’ qualification, the project can be conducted as a PhD study with a 3 months’ pre-project phase followed by a 3-year PhD project. The position is open from 1 April 2021.

If the applicant is interested in a PhD study, it is prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate is enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Medicine, Aalborg University, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No.1039 of 27 August 2013 on the PhD Programme at the University and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions after the 3 months’ pre-project phase.

Qualifications
A university degree in statistics, medicine (including medicine with industrial specialization), health technology, engineering, or similar is required. Most importantly, you need to have a genuine interest in data analysis. Knowledge about at least one statistical programming language (e.g. R, Stata, or SAS) is an advantage, and a collaborative mindset is required.

About the department
Aalborg University Hospital is one of five highly specialized university hospitals in Denmark. It serves as a joint cooperation within healthcare between North Denmark Region and the Faculty of Medicine at Aalborg University. The close cooperation between Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital ensures health research, education, and innovation at an international level. The Department of Haematology at Aalborg University Hospital and its associated laboratory is an active and ambitious research unit. We are dedicated to research projects in experimental and clinical haematology. The unit was established 15 years ago and has focus on molecular research, clinical epidemiology and real-world data studies, as well as data science.

About the position
You will be working at the epidemiology and real-world data research unit. The unit has a strong track record of using registries and real-world data to improve clinical practice. Some of the research originating from the unit has been implemented internationally and helped improve the care of haematological patients through, e.g., the development of web-based decision support tools. You will be part of these research programmes as well as ongoing and future international collaborations. A key methodology within the unit is to combine large observational data from various databases and apply novel statistical methods to extract information, meaningful for clinical decision making and patient information. You will be working with us on these projects and have your own research area as well.
